Navoi incident: champion allegedly knocks out man with one hit (video)

Reports have circulated on social media claiming that an Olympic champion in the city of Navoi struck a citizen, causing bodily injury. In the video, filmed near a car marked with the words “President’s gift”, a young man is seen delivering a single punch that knocks another person to the ground. The Navoi regional department of Internal Affairs has issued a statement regarding the incident.

It was reported that the incident was investigated by the Navoi regional department of Internal Affairs. According to the findings, the event occurred on August 22 this year at around 2:00 a.m. in the “Ziyokor” neighborhood of Navoi city. A resident of Karmana district, 30-year-old S.A., had gone to a local restaurant in that neighborhood with acquaintances for a meal. At the end, S.A. paid the bill, but since part of the payment was still outstanding, he stepped outside to fetch the remaining money from his car.

At that moment, M.U., a 20-year-old employee of the restaurant, approached him and asked to settle the outstanding amount. S.A., who was under the influence of alcohol, got into a verbal dispute and, deliberately disregarding public order, struck M.U. in the face without any apparent reason, causing bodily harm.

“During the inquiry, it was established that the suspect, citizen S.A., is not an Olympic champion. On that day, he arrived at the restaurant together with citizen E.S., a two-time Paralympic champion in discus throw born in 1995, in E.S.’s vehicle. It was clarified that during the dispute, citizen E.S. remained inside the car and later intervened to calm citizen S.A., as well as promptly provided assistance to the injured person,” the statement of the regional department of Internal Affairs said.

It was reported that a criminal case has been initiated under part 1 of Article 277 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the suspect S.A. has been detained in accordance with procedural rules. Investigative measures are currently underway.

It is worth noting that earlier, a brawl broke out in the Asaka district of Andijan region, during which two men sustained serious injuries. The attackers, ignoring the objections and pleas of bystanders, repeatedly punched and kicked the unconscious victims lying on the ground and even filmed their actions. The footage also shows that at the time of the incident, a person in a police uniform was present at the scene.
