Uzbekistan and Russia have reached an agreement to increase the volume of oil and gas supplies, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on April 13 during a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission.

“Russia remains one of Uzbekistan’s leading foreign trade partners. Last year, bilateral trade grew by nearly 12.5% and is now approaching one trillion rubles. In line with agreements between our heads of state, we aim to multiply this figure several times by 2030. I believe we have the necessary foundation to achieve these goals,” Mishustin said.

In turn, Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov noted at the start of the meeting that bilateral relations between the two countries have reached a fundamentally new level of comprehensive strategic partnership.

“Over the past five years, bilateral trade has doubled and, by the end of 2025, exceeded $13 billion, as you noted. According to our data, this positive trend continues this year, with trade increasing by another 30% in the first two months,” Aripov said.

He added that both sides are working to expand the range of traded goods, particularly by increasing the share of high value-added products, in order to reach a bilateral trade volume of $30 billion by 2030.

Mishustin also emphasized that the energy sector remains a key area for strengthening cooperation. He recalled that construction of an integrated nuclear power plant based on a Russian design has begun in Uzbekistan.

“The implementation of this large-scale initiative will undoubtedly provide an additional boost to Uzbekistan’s economy and social sector, ensuring a stable supply of peaceful nuclear energy to the population and businesses for decades,” he said.

He further noted that cooperation in the fuel sector is also developing actively.

“An agreement has been reached to continue and increase supplies of Russian oil and natural gas. With the participation of Russian specialists, work is underway in Uzbekistan to drill new wells, modernize processing systems, and upgrade gas transport infrastructure,” Mishustin added.

According to him, nearly 150 investment projects worth more than 4 trillion rubles are currently being implemented in the country.
