Uzbekistan appoints new ambassador to Australia

Alisher Qayumov, Uzbekistan’s ambassador (based in Singapore), presented his credentials to Australia’s Governor-General, Samantha Mostyn, the Dunyo news agency reported.
The official ceremony took place at the Government House residence in Canberra. During their meeting, the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan–Australia relations were discussed in detail, including cooperation in political, trade-economic, scientific, educational, and other fields.
Governor-General Samantha Mostyn praised the extensive reforms being carried out under the leadership of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. She highlighted the achievements in modernizing state governance, developing civil society, and creating a favorable investment environment for international business.
The discussion also noted similarities between the Australian and Uzbek economies, particularly in cotton production and mining industries, emphasizing broad prospects for cooperation in innovation and investment.
Additionally, Mostyn mentioned the successful hosting of the recent UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, noting that Uzbekistan is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Australian tourists.
At the conclusion of the meeting, she expressed her readiness to strengthen bilateral relations and conveyed her sincere regards to the leadership and people of Uzbekistan.
It is worth noting that earlier, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Bangladesh (based in Delhi), Sardor Rustamboev, presented his credentials to the President of Bangladesh, Mohammad Shahabuddin.
