On January 22, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, to sign the charter of the Peace Council, officially making Uzbekistan one of the founding states of the body. The president’s press service reported this.

The event, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, was attended by heads of state, prime ministers, and foreign ministers from Argentina, Armenia, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Jordan, Morocco, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Paraguay, Pakistan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Hungary, and several other countries.

“The establishment of the Peace Council is in line with Uzbekistan’s foreign policy priorities aimed at promoting peace initiatives and supporting multilateral cooperation. The new structure is being formed as part of the implementation of a comprehensive plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, supported by a resolution of the UN Security Council,” the statement said.

According to the information provided, the Peace Council is intended to reduce the risk of escalation and create favorable conditions for economic and social recovery in the Gaza Strip. This, in turn, is aimed at building a new Gaza with a stable economy and peaceful living conditions, as well as creating prospects for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the future.

The council includes influential and prominent leaders from various countries around the world. By signing the charter, Uzbekistan formally became one of the founding members of the Peace Council.

“This demonstrates our country’s readiness to participate consistently in the council’s activities and to make a practical contribution to implementing its mandate in close cooperation with all founding states and international partners,” the statement said.

It is worth noting that earlier reports said U.S. President Donald Trump had signed the charter of the Peace Council, which was established at his initiative.
