Starting from March 1, 2026, prices of medicines for the public in Uzbekistan will be reduced by 40–60 percent, according to the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency.
The price reduction will be driven by the introduction of reference prices for 2,000 imported medicines, a reduction in distributor markups, and an increase in investment in the pharmaceutical sector. In particular, $392 million in investments has been attracted to support sector development, which is 2.3 times more than last year.
In addition, plans are in place to reduce prices for another 4,000 types of medicines by the end of the year. Measures are also envisaged to expand the production of import-substituting medicines at local enterprises through technology transfer.
It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that some pharmacies in Uzbekistan were found to be selling lotions instead of medical alcohol.
