The first special underground waste storage complex in Uzbekistan has been launched in the city of Samarkand, Samarkand region. This was reported by the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development.
According to the agency, the main goal of introducing these storage units, organized by its regional department, is to prevent household waste collected from the population from being scattered around, to stop the spread of unpleasant odors during hot days, and to create more comfortable conditions for residents.
The first complex was launched at the "Obod Maskan" municipal waste management facility in the Karasuv massif of Samarkand city.
For reference, this underground waste storage system is installed at a depth of 2 meters and contains four special containers in each unit. Each container has a capacity of 3 cubic meters, or 550 liters, allowing the system to serve between 1,000 and 1,500 residents. It is planned to construct five more such underground complexes in the region.
The agency noted that these effective measures have been welcomed by local residents, who say they are a good solution to prevent waste from being scattered by wind or animals.
