Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent region have intercepted nearly 5 kilograms of illegal narcotics. The State Security Service (SSS) reported the seizure.

According to the report, during an operation, officials recovered 4.956 kilograms of opium, divided into 10 packages, from a concealed location near the Tashkent Outer Ring Road in Zangiota district. The narcotics had previously been left there by traffickers and were documented officially in the presence of witnesses.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code (preparation, acquisition, storage, or illegal trafficking of narcotics, their analogues, or psychotropic substances). Authorities are taking measures to identify the individuals who abandoned the substance.

The SSS noted that such narcotics are typically smuggled into Uzbekistan from abroad.

Earlier, residents of Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Khorezm regions were caught with over 11 kilograms of narcotics in total.
