FIFA may postpone the 2034 World Cup to 2035, The Athletic reported.
According to the source, the tournament in Saudi Arabia could be delayed because the month of Ramadan in 2034 coincides with December, when the World Cup is scheduled to take place. Therefore, FIFA is considering holding the tournament in January 2035 instead.
It is also not possible to hold the 2034 World Cup in the summer, as temperatures in Saudi Arabia reach up to +52 degrees at that time.
If confirmed, the 2034 World Cup would not only become the second tournament in history to be held in winter but also the first ever to take place in an odd year. For reference, the first winter World Cup was held in Qatar in 2022.
