The names of airports and bus terminals in Uzbekistan will be brought into compliance with the norms of the state language. This is stipulated in a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers titled “On bringing the names of airports, bus terminals, and bus stations into compliance with the rules and norms of the state language and assigning new names,” adopted on January 9 this year.

According to the resolution, the names approved by this document must be used in regulatory legal acts, office documentation, maps, and official correspondence. The resolution lists 161 airports, bus terminals, and bus stations whose names have been aligned with the rules and norms of the state language, while the names of 21 facilities have been changed entirely.

In particular, Tashkent-Sharqiy Airport in Tashkent has been renamed Tashkent-Humo.

Within three months, the Ministry of Transport, together with Uzbekistan Airports JSC, Uzbekistan Airways JSC, the Cadastre Agency, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and the regional and Tashkent city administrations, must ensure the following:

– amendments are made to relevant documents, maps, and databases in connection with bringing the names of airports, bus terminals, and bus stations into compliance with the rules and norms of the state language and assigning new names;
– inscriptions on signboards and information displays installed at airports, bus terminals, and bus stations are written in the Uzbek language based on the Latin alphabet and in accordance with the rules and norms of the state language.

Bus terminals and bus stations will be named and renamed by the Cabinet of Ministers upon the proposal of the Ministry of Transport.

Earlier, it was reported that the names of railway stations, terminals, and sidings under Uzbekistan Railways would also be brought into compliance with the rules and norms of the state language.
