Afghan national detained for smuggling 10 kg of drugs across the Amu Darya

An Afghan national has been detained for attempting to smuggle 10 kilograms of narcotic substances across the Amu Darya River, the State Security Service reported.

According to the statement, servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan intercepted a large quantity of drugs that had been illegally transported from neighboring Afghanistan into the country.

In particular, a man born in 1974 and residing in Kunduz province of Afghanistan was apprehended while crossing the state border by boat via the Amu Darya.

Two sacks found in his possession contained a total of 10 packages of hashish, with a net weight of 10.354 kilograms. The evidence was documented in accordance with procedural requirements.

A criminal case has been opened against the suspect by the investigative department of the State Security Service’s Surkhandarya regional office. Measures are currently being taken to identify other individuals involved in the crime.

It is worth noting that earlier, another individual was detained in Termez district of Surkhandarya region while attempting to smuggle 72 kilograms of narcotics disguised as potatoes.
