ESD employee detained in Andijan for promising employment in exchange for bribe

An employee of the Emergency Situations Department (ESD) has been detained in Andijan region for allegedly promising to secure employment in exchange for money, the State Security Service reported.

The incident occurred in the Baliqchi district of Andijan region. According to the report, an inspector of the district Emergency Situations Department abused his official position, gained the trust of a citizen, and demanded $1,800 in return for arranging a job for the citizen’s relative through his alleged connections with officials in the sector.

During a special operation carried out jointly by officers of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the inspector was detained while receiving the requested sum at one of the district’s public catering establishments. He was apprehended with material evidence.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect under Article 168, Part 3, clause “v” of the Criminal Code (fraud), as well as Articles 28 and 211, Part 1 (bribe-taking). Investigative actions are currently underway.

It is worth noting that earlier in Andijan region, several individuals were detained for deceiving a citizen by introducing themselves as law enforcement officers.
