Well-known rapper and member of the Chilonzor District Council of People’s Deputies, Shohruh Shodmonov, has criticized the authorities for limiting their response to reports and comments amid growing public concern over air pollution in Tashkent. He expressed his views on his social media page.
“Let’s state it openly: the deterioration of air quality in our country is not ‘seasonal’ or a ‘natural process’ – it is the result of negligence,” the deputy said.
Shohruh Shodmonov noted that children are breathing toxic air and people are trying to protect themselves with masks and air purifiers, although not everyone can afford such items.
“The public is doing everything it can, but responsible agencies are still restricting themselves to reports and explanations.
No matter how difficult it may be, environmental authorities must resolve this issue quickly, decisively, and firmly. Millions of living people are suffering because of your inaction,” Shodmonov said.
He also pointed out that environmental officials have recently been granted expanded powers and practical tools, describing this as an opportunity for them to become heroes.
“If even after this you still cannot accomplish anything, then I don’t know what to call you. So instead of talking too much, show real courage in action!” Shodmonov stated.
As a reminder, under the presidential decree signed on 19 November titled “On Measures to Create a Management System Capable of Responding Promptly to Public Demands in the Fields of Ecology and Tourism,” Uzbekistan is establishing the State Environmental Control Inspectorate (Eco-Police) under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change. The chair of the Ecology Committee will also serve as the head of the Eco-Police.
