During morning and evening rush hours, trucks arriving in Tashkent will have to wait for up to three hours at parking areas near city entry points. This was announced by Minister of Internal Affairs Aziz Toshpulatov during the ’’Menimcha’’ program.
According to reports, five parking areas are planned to be built at the ’’Erkin,’’ ’’Sharq,’’ ’’Bektemir,’’ ’’Uch Qahramon,’’ and ’’Turbanov’’ traffic control posts for vehicles entering the capital and nearby regions. The project also includes bus stations and camping sites at these locations. Land plots of 7.7 hectares, 4.25 hectares, and 8 hectares have been allocated for some of the facilities. The busiest checkpoint is the ’’Erkin’’ post, through which 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles pass daily.
Toshpulatov noted that during peak hours, the entry of freight trucks into Tashkent will be restricted.
’’If a truck leaves Samarkand with cargo and arrives in Tashkent around 8:00 am, it will have to wait for three hours. Once permission is granted, it can continue into the city. This way, we will restrict movement during rush hours, morning and evening. At other times, minibuses will be allowed to operate,’’ Aziz Toshpulatov said.
It is worth noting that earlier, First Deputy Mayor of Tashkent Bakhtiyor Haydarov stated in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel that checkpoints located at the city’s entry and exit points would be relocated to reduce traffic congestion. Meanwhile, according to Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov, more than 400,000 vehicles enter the capital daily, and over one million people commute in and out of the city each day.
