In Uzbekistan, entrepreneurs will receive subsidies for importing beef and lamb. This is stipulated in the presidential resolution “On Additional Measures to Support the Provision of the Population with Basic Food Products,” adopted on April 7 this year.
According to the resolution, temporary subsidies from the state budget of Uzbekistan will be allocated in the following areas to help ensure price stability for meat products:
From April 1 to August 1 this year, entrepreneurs importing beef and lamb will be compensated for 50 percent of their air transportation costs, but not more than $0.8 per kilogram of meat.
From April 1 to December 31 this year, 10 percent of the value of pedigree cattle imported by air from foreign countries will be subsidized, but not more than 4 million soums per head of cattle.
In accordance with the resolution, these subsidies will be financed by the Payments Agency in the Agricultural Sector.
It is worth noting that earlier reports said meat prices in Uzbekistan had risen by as much as 8 percent in a single month. As of March 24, the wholesale price of beef at the Eski Juva (Chorsu) market in Tashkent ranged from 75,000 to 108,000 soums.
