Four died after electric moped falls into canal in Samarkand

An electric moped carrying eight people fell into a canal in Pakhtachi district of Samarkand region on May 31. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported the incident.
According to the ministry, at 8:25 p.m., the Samarkand regional emergency department received a report through the 112 system that the driver of an electric moped designed for cargo transportation had lost control and fallen into the Narpay canal, which runs through the Ukrach mahalla in Pakhtachi district, with eight people on board.
When rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived at the scene, they found that local residents had rescued four of the eight people who had fallen into the canal. A large-scale search and rescue operation was then immediately launched in the water. During the search, carried out by rescuers with the help of residents, the remaining four people were found dead and recovered from the canal.
Preliminary inquiries found that a resident of the Ukrach mahalla in Pakhtachi district, born in 1984, had been riding the electric moped with a total of eight people on board. They included his wife, as well as six minors from his own and a neighbouring household.
The Pakhtachi district prosecutor’s office, the internal affairs department and the Ministry of Emergency Situations are currently investigating the cause of the incident at the scene.
Earlier, it was reported that a 23-year-old man drowned at a recreation area in Pop district of Namangan region.
