Uzbekistan reports over 9,000 divorces in first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 9,063 marriages were officially dissolved in Uzbekistan, according to a report by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

During this period, courts handling civil cases issued 299,384 judicial orders to recover compulsory payments exceeding 2.03 trillion UZS. These payments include child support (alimony), wages and related compensations, legally recognized debts, and outstanding utility service bills.

Additionally, courts reviewed 142,185 civil cases, with 115,148 claims approved, 10,662 rejected, 14,696 dismissed, and 1,679 cases closed.

Among the reviewed cases, 186,151 were related to loan recovery, 62,375 to tax debt collection, 43,243 to unpaid utilities, 19,313 to alimony disputes, and 17,131 involved divorce proceedings.

"Of the divorce cases heard by the courts, 9,063 marriages were officially dissolved, 6,010 divorce claims were rejected, 1,481 cases were dismissed, and 577 cases were closed without resolution," the report states.

Regarding reinstatement claims, 717 cases were reviewed, with 316 approved, 275 rejected, 160 dismissed, and 20 closed.

At the regional and equivalent courts, 2,983 appeals were reviewed, leading to 560 rulings being overturned and 194 rulings modified.

In cassation proceedings, 2,033 cases were reviewed, resulting in 395 overturned rulings and 166 modified decisions.

At the Supreme Court, 1,326 cases were examined, with 132 rulings overturned and 27 modified.

The Civil Panel of the Supreme Court reviewed 78 cases, resulting in 39 overturned rulings and 11 modified decisions.

In 2024, Uzbek courts recorded 32,217 divorce cases, marking a continuing trend in marital separations.
