As of today, Uzbekistan has 82 surviving World War II veterans and honorary participants, according to information shared at a press conference held by the Ministry of Defense on May 1 at AOKA.
A review of military service records confirmed that 1,951,000 Uzbek citizens were mobilized to the front, with 538,000 losing their lives in battle. Among the surviving veterans, the oldest has reached 114 years of age.
During World War II, Uzbekistan became a key rear-front center, constructing 280 new industrial facilities and initiating the production of military goods. The republic also sheltered over 1.5 million evacuees, including 250,000 orphaned children.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued a decree announcing that May 9, 2025, would be observed as Remembrance and Honor Day. Additionally, the 80th anniversary of the World War II victory will be marked with the creation of a commemorative jubilee medal.
