The chief specialist of the Zangiota district department of agriculture in the Tashkent region was detained while receiving a $20,000 bribe, the State Security Service reported.
According to the information, the official demanded $40,000 from a local citizen in exchange for formalizing an 8-acre land plot, located next to the citizen’s house and classified as state reserve land, under the entrepreneur’s name through a district administration working group.
The specialist was caught by officers of the State Security Service and the department for combating economic crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office while receiving 20,000 US dollars of the demanded sum.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 168 (fraud), part 4, paragraph “a”, and Articles 28 and 211 (bribery), part 3, paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code. He has been placed in pre-trial detention as a preventive measure, and investigative actions are underway.
It is worth noting that earlier, the mayor of Namangan city, Anvar Otakhodjayev, was caught while receiving a $60,000 bribe. He allegedly colluded with the head of a footwear manufacturing LLC to demand $60,000 from a citizen who intended to engage in entrepreneurial activity in the construction sector. In return, they promised to secure the right to build a multi-storey residential building on a 35-acre plot within the city, currently occupied by outdated residential houses, as well as provide financing.
